Latitud Azul takes elasmobranch conservation to FIMAR 2026

An educational booth on the biodiversity of rays and sharks in the Canary Islands, with family activities, a photobooth, and merchandise sales.

Latitud Azul 1 min de lectura

Latitud Azul participated once again in FIMAR, the International Maritime Fair held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Our booth became a space for raising awareness about the rich diversity of elasmobranchs found in Canarian waters: sharks and rays.

Through interactive games and educational materials, visitors learned key facts about these species, their role in marine ecosystems, and the threats they face from overfishing and habitat degradation such as the loss of seagrass meadows.

Activities for all ages

The space featured:

  • Educational games: on marine biology and conservation, designed for children and families.
  • Themed photobooth: where attendees took photos with visual elements related to Canarian marine life.
  • Merchandise sales: whose proceeds help fund our conservation and citizen science projects.

Commitment to civic participation

FIMAR allowed us to fulfill one of our organization's core pillars: connecting with the public. Over 14,000 people visited our booth during the three days of the fair, many of them families with children who discovered for the first time the diversity of sharks and rays found in the Archipelago.

From Latitud Azul, we thank the FIMAR organization for maintaining a space dedicated to marine education and remain committed to ocean biodiversity conservation in the Canary Islands.
