A human chain crossed Las Canteras beach from end to end. Hundreds of hands joined, feet in the sand, eyes on the Atlantic. A collective gesture that says what words sometimes cannot: the ocean matters to us.
A Collective Defense Act
Latitud Azul together with Kinema Producciones organized this human chain at Las Canteras as a symbolic and real act in defense of the oceans. It was an event open to all citizens, without distinctions: families, surfers, fishermen, scientists, children, grandparents.
Why a Human Chain?
Because the sea needs us to unite. Literally.
The human chain is one of the oldest and most powerful forms of peaceful protest: bodies that occupy a space to say that space matters. In this case, the space was the very edge between land and sea.
Las Canteras as a Symbol
Las Canteras is not just a famous beach: it is a living ecosystem that houses rays, sharks, octopuses, sea urchins, and dozens of species that depend on humans caring for their home.
Making the human chain here was not coincidence. It was a declaration of intent: this coastline, we defend it together.
Community as the Engine of Change
This type of action demonstrates that marine conservation is not just the business of scientists or politicians. It belongs to ordinary people who get up on a Sunday, go to the beach, and decide that the ocean deserves their time and commitment.
Next time you see an action for the sea, do not just watch. Join.
