Green Neighborhoods-Blue Neighborhoods

We transform coastal neighborhoods in Gran Canaria into sustainable communities. Land stewardship, citizen participation, and connection with the marine environment.

From Urban to Natural

Green Neighborhoods-Blue Neighborhoods aims to transform the relationship between coastal neighborhoods in Gran Canaria and their marine environment. This is not about preserving nature as something separate: it is about the community recognizing itself as part of the ecosystem.

Lines of Action

  • Land stewardship: design and maintenance of community green spaces
  • Marine stewardship: knowledge and protection of the coastal stretch of the neighborhood
  • Citizen participation: mechanisms for collective decision-making on public space
  • Local economy: support for sustainable and zero-km businesses

Pilot Neighborhood

The pilot project is being developed in a neighborhood in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with the intention of scaling the model to other coastal territories of the archipelago.
